Nancy has been in foster care for 3 years and has been in more than 20 homes; Shelley was placed with a relative because her mother is in jail; Angel has been sexually abused by her brother and her parents don’t believe her; David’s mother moves a lot so school attendance is a problem. Why is this important to you? These are true stories of children in your community, and if you care about the children in our community, you will want to help.

What does this have to do with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)? A CASA volunteer was appointed to advocate for the best interest of the children in each of these cases.

Lone Star CASA of Rockwall and Kaufman Counties invites you to our 12th CASA Round Up on Saturday, October 4, at 6:30 p.m. at Rush Creek Yacht Club, Heath. Tickets are $50 per person. Join us as we celebrate over 15 years of service to the children of our area with an evening of dining, entertainment and silent and live auctions. By purchasing tickets and attending this year’s Round Up activities, making a donation to our auction, or being a sponsor of the event, you will be making a valuable contribution toward helping a child in need.

Lone Star CASA helps abused, abandoned and neglected children in protective care find safe, permanent homes where they can thrive. More than 200 neglected children in Rockwall and Kaufman Counties need a CASA "voice in court." In 2007 our volunteers advocated for 121 children, so many did not have an advocate.

Judges appoint a trained CASA volunteer to a case when a child is removed from his or her home and placed in foster care. CASA volunteers monitor a child’s well being in foster care, advocate for the child within the court system, and help ensure that the child receives the services he or she needs. The program recruits community members from both Kaufman and Rockwall Counties to serve as volunteer advocates and board members.

Our CASA program is a non-profit organization, like all CASA programs in Texas, governed by a local Board of Directors. Funding and financial support comes from federal, state and county grants, local organizations and donors, and fundraisers. For additional information, contact Lone Star CASA at 972-772-5858 or director@lonestarcasa.org.
